Position: Point Guard

Team: South Dakota State

Class: Senior
Strengths

Right-handed… Wolters has good size for a point guard at the next level and a solid enough frame at this point (but will certainly need to add strength). He has a very well-rounded game- using his length to elevate over defenders on the perimeter or finish in the lane or put up decent rebounding numbers for his position. While he isn’t very gifted athletically, Wolters put up solid across-the-board production thanks in part to his ability to change speeds and directions with the ball in his hands. How he will fare against NBA-caliber competition in individual and team-based drills will go a long way in projecting Wolters… He has excellent ball-handling control, especially playing in pick-and-roll sets. Given his vision and passing instincts, Wolters thrived in these opportunities, but also lobs to the rim, post-entries, etc.
Weaknesses

Wolters will struggle at the next level based on his gifts, or lack thereof, of sub-par quickness and athleticism. He experienced difficulties beating collegiate defenders off the dribble nor was he exceptional in the leaping category. His combine numbers will be important to his potential draft stock, but expect them to be towards the bottom of the pack. Against Minnesota, Georgia and Baylor, only one of which has multiple players with NBA-talent, the guard really shot the ball poorly; his turnovers were forced by ball pressure from superior athletes and quicker defenders. Not a great sign for the South Dakota State product… His lack of quickness harnessed Wolters’ ability to turn the corner to penetrate, get around a defending big man hedging on the pick-and-roll and get to the foul line.
