Strengths

Right-handed… O'Quinn helped Norfolk State shock the world when the No. 15 Spartans upset No. 2 Missouri in the second-round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament play. Although Florida shut down the frontcourt prospect in the following game, O'Quinn has been one of the hottest names in the 2012 Draft from that moment on with his March and April play in the Portsmouth Invitational… He measured in at 6'8 ¾" without shoes, about 6'10" with, 241 pounds and a massive 7'5" wingspan. He has a chiseled, muscular frame that is extremely helpful in keeping opposing bigs from gaining advantageous positioning on him, while he uses his strength to muscle his way to the rim and finish consistently. He has a diverse offensive game that extends out to the 3-point range. Although he shot only 19 percent from beyond the arc, he was able to draw the defense out where O'Quinn was comfortable shooting it even with a defender closing in or he has an impressive court sense. He is able to see the holes in the defense (whether he is on the perimeter or in the low-post) and he is one of the better passing bigs in this Draft… O'Quinn operates out of the low-post often, but is also comfortable enough attacking the defense from the mid-to-high post area. He is very aggressive, averaging better than six free-throw attempts a game and connecting on about 70 percent of those...
Weaknesses

O'Quinn is certainly a below-average athlete contributing very few plays above-the-rim or due to any sort of burst of explosive athleticism. He lacks the lateral quickness to stay in front of most 4-men and some 5s so his biggest asset will be utilizing his length and strength as best as he can on the defensive end of the floor. His lack of quickness will do him no favors on the defensive end. He will consistently bite on shot fakes and get beat off the dribble… On the offensive end, O'Quinn is a steady finisher around the rim, shooting upwards of 61 percent from 2-point range as a senior, but he lacks polish; he needs to refine his scoring moves to lock his defender behind him on his drop step and covert a smooth up-and-under move to combat his lack of athleticism and he will need to develop a mid-range jump shot. His lack of quickness and explosion is a big question mark on how likely he is to convert shots around the rim against bigger and better athletes… O'Quinn has range that extends out to the 3-point line, but he needs to exhibit a better shot selection if he wants to face-up his man…
