Providence A Surprise Team in 2012-13

Take a look now because the chances of seeing the Providence Friars near the bottom of the Big East standings isn't likely to happen again anytime soon. Yes, it took us a while to believe in that statement too, but coach Ed Cooley is building the Friars with size on the inside in Wake Forest transfer Carson Desrosiers, shooting on the perimeter in top-recruit Ricardo Ledo and the slashing of freshman point guard Kris Dunn. Add-in undersized power forward, LaDontae Henton, who largely flew under the national radar in his first year despite averaging 14.3 points and 8.6 rebounds a game, and senior-to-be guard Vincent Council, who was fourth in the entire country in assists per game with 7.5 and chipped in with a team-high 15.9 points. Now, Desrosiers won't be eligible for another year, but there's no reason not to believe that the core of Council and Henton plus the additions of Ledo and Dunn can pull Providence out of the cellar for the second time in six seasons.
