Charlotte Bobcats Making Moves

Just hours after trade talks between the Charlotte Bobcats and the Toronto Raptors dissolved; The Bobcats hit the phones, this time with the Dallas Mavericks. The teams have completed a five-player deal that will send Tyson Chandler, 2008 1st Round talent Alexis Ajinca to the Mavericks in exchange for Erick Dampier, Eduardo Najera, Matt Carroll and some cash considerations.

The Bobcats can dump Dampier's $13 million contract that is not guaranteed through the 2010-11 season, while Chandler's contract was worth $12.7 million next year, guaranteed. So the move not only saves the team money in the short run, but also gives the franchise some financial flexibility and ability to improve the team in the 2010 free agent market.

Since the Knicks stole starting Bobcat point guard away from the team, Charlotte has been linked to Jose Calderon in that Toronto deal that went sour, but also, most recently with Timberwolves point guard Ramon Sessions. The Bobcats should be after a replacement for Felton and Sessions is a prime target after he became expendable when Luke Ridnour agreed in principle to a four-year deal with Minnesota.
